Camberley Homes teams with U. S. Department of Energy and NAHB Research Center to build state-of-the-art High Performance/Energy Efficient Home
in Silver Spring.
Demonstration Wednesday, March 2 will showcase EnergyComplete™ Insulation Blow-In at Poplar Run.
Bethesda, MD (February 28, 2011) – Camberley Homes, along with our national building partners, the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Building America Challenge Program, the National Association of Home Builders Research Center and Owens Corning EnergyComplete™ will conduct a "Behind the Walls" demonstration of leading edge, energy efficient construction technologies Wednesday, March 2nd at 10 am at the Poplar Run Community in Silver Spring, Maryland.
The new home demonstration is important because it’s not the "same old" energy efficient home. This house uses high-performing, energy efficient design and construction technologies that are built into the DNA of the home. The visual demonstration will feature the actual application of the Owens Corning EnergyComplete™ Whole Home Insulation and Air Sealing System, which is designed to reduce heating and cooling energy bills by up to 33%. Air infiltration is the main cause of heat loss in the home. According to the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the EnergyComplete™ system is proven to reduce it by up to 70%.
The EnergyComplete™ system along with advanced framing technologies from I-Level by Weyerhaeuser are just two examples of the many high performance building techniques Camberley Homes and its partners will utilize in the construction of the Centennial Collection homes. The home sealing will also address opportunities to reduce pollutants, allergens and unwanted outside noise.
The construction research was instigated as a response to the U.S. Department of Energy’s challenge to the home building industry across the country to build a new generation of high-performance, energy efficient homes. The ultimate goal of the challenge is work toward providing the buying public cost-neutral, net-zero energy homes by 2030. To date, the Camberley Homes (the luxury home building division of Winchester Homes) Centennial Collection of homes represent a select group of new single-family homes in the Metro DC area to participate in the DOE’s Building America and the Builder’s Challenge program. In order to qualify for the Builder's Challenge program, the home must have a score of 70 or less on the DOE's EnergySmart Home scale (E-Scale) along with a comprehensive list of additional key energy saving components of new home construction.
"The Camberley Homes Centennial Collection is an exciting new product line for us. With this Collection, we are focused on building the most well built, highest rated, energy efficient homes in the Washington DC area. The ability to combine high-performance construction with stunning turn of the century exterior elevation will make these homes unique in the marketplace", said Alan Shapiro, President of Winchester Homes and Camberley Homes.
